Sail Away on a weekend of discovery along the rivers of the East Coast

On board you will find a mixture of single people, couples or friends. Enjoy communal meals but with room on deck to escape for some peace and quiet.  Help set the sails, take the wheel and wind the anchor, or relax on deck if you prefer.  All fully catered.

MAY 23-24    “Bank Holiday Escape”

Join Friday evening and meet your shipmates over supper. As the tide creeps in, Reminder slides down river around midnight for a night anchorage off Osea Island. After a hearty breakfast on Saturday it’s up anchor to sail away and explore the river Blackwater, past Tollesbury Creek and Mersea Island to the mouth of the river and heading into the Colne at Brightlingsea.  You may anchor there for the night or at Bradwell, with an optional shore visit for beach combing or to find a local pint.  On Sunday, take the tide back up river,  returning to Maldon after a substantial Sunday Roast at 1400. £280

JUNE 13 Blackwater Barge Race combined with JUNE 14 “Hands on” Day Sail

Two separate day experiences (on Topsail’s main website) or add 2 nights accommodation and combine to make a thrilling weekend. Join Friday evening in Maldon and soak up the atmosphere of the Quay filled with barges and crew.  Early start Saturday for the race, feel the tension as the skippers jostle for position for the start of the race off Osea Island before heading down river towards Bradwell and the outer mark.  Have your cameras ready for some exciting close up shots.  Return to the Quay Sat evening for the prize giving.  Sunday is a real “hands-on” day with you becoming crew for the day.  Return Maldon approx. 1900  £295

JUNE 20-21    Sail, Dinner, B&B Cruise

Join Saturday morning at 1200 to sail away and explore the river Blackwater, enjoying a Ploughmans Lunch as you pass Mersea Island and head towards the mouth of the river at Bardwell before returning for a night anchorage off Osea Island.  You might choose to go beachcombing on Osea before a delicious dinner on board.  After breakfast on Sunday we return to Maldon at 1200 where you might visit our barge tearooms for lunch before heading home. As well as great sailing, you’ll enjoy a sumptuous Saturday night four course dinner, with seasonal, locally sourced items a speciality. £180

JUNE 27-28 Pin Mill Barge Race & Suffolk Rivers Weekend

Join Friday evening for supper and meet your crew and fellow voyagers. After supper enjoy a walk along Ipswich’s attractive the Waterfront. Lock out of the dock early Saturday for the start line at Pin Mill and the barge sailing at full stretch out of the River Orwell to the outer mark. Join the crew Saturday evening ashore to help collect all the cups you have won ! On Sunday, it’s up anchor after breakfast for a leisurely day exploring the Stour and Orwell arriving back in Ipswich at teatime.
Due to risk of injury, extra experienced crew join Reminder for the race, but on Sunday you can choose to help hoist the sails and take the wheel if you wish. £280

JULY 18-19    Sail, Dinner, B&B Cruise

JULY 25-26  “Girls Only” Weekend

No Chaps allowed ! If you want to find out more about sailing in a supportive atmosphere, this is your chance, but if you prefer just to relax and let the world go by, that’s fine too. Join Maldon Fri eve for supper, watch the sun rise on Saturday as you depart the Quay and head down river, past Bradwell, Mersea Island and into the River Colne and a quiet anchorage for dinner. Return to Maldon approx. 1630 on Sunday, with some new friends and great memories ! £280

AUGUST 8-9    “Sail-Escape-Explore” Weekend

Join Maldon Fri eve for supper. Early start Saturday morning as you take the tide down river, past Bradwell, Mersea Island and into the River Colne at Brightlingsea, taking the flood tide up to picturesque Wivenhoe Quay, perhaps with a brief shore visit to explore it’s fascinating waterfront.  Overnight at Pyefleet Creek. Sunday we head out of the Colne and back into the Blackwater for a good sail on the flood tide, returning to Maldon after lunch at approx. 1530 on Sunday. £280

AUGUST 29-30    Sail, Dinner, B&B Cruise 

Join Saturday at 1000 to sail away and explore the river Blackwater, enjoying a Ploughman’s  lunch as you pass Mersea Island and head towards the mouth of the river before retuning for a night anchorage off Bradwell.  You might choose to go ashore for an explore before a delicious dinner on board.  After a hearty breakfast on Sunday we return to Maldon at 1100 where you might look for lunch at our barge tearooms before heading home. As well as great sailing, you’ll enjoy a sumptuous Saturday night four course dinner, with seasonal, locally sourced items a speciality. £180

SEPTEMBER 12-13   “Colne Barge & Smack Race” Weekend

Join in Brightlingsea on Friday evening – the crew will pick you up by barge boat to run out to the barge at anchor in Pyefleet Creek.  Saturday is race day with Smacks and Barges all squeezing out of the river for a great spectator day with fabulous photo opportunities. Optional shore visit Sat evening for the prize giving.  Sunday we take time to explore the picturesque river Colne or head into the Blackwater, dropping you back at Brightlingsea after tea. Due to risk of injury, extra experienced crew join Reminder for the race, but on Sunday you can choose to help hoist the sails and take the wheel if you wish.  Ask about joining Reminder early Friday for the passage to Brightlingsea and returning with crew late on Sunday evening. £280

OCTOBER 10-11  “Autumn Colours” Weekend

The saltmarshes always look particularly beautiful with a low setting sun, and the winter bird visitors have started to arrive – Brent Geese honking as they fly low for a night on the Blackwater Estuary. Join Maldon Fri eve for supper, sail Sat morning and head down river, out to the Colne, past Fingringhoe Wick bird reserve and  a visit to Wivenhoe Quay before finding a quiet anchorage back in Pyefleet Creek for the night.  Return to Maldon after tea at approx. 1830 on Sunday £280
